Whether you love it or hate it, the World Cup is here – and it’s huge. We’re even running a poll on our blog to see who YOU think will win… Even if the world cup isn’t quite your cup of tea, there are still crucial lessons to be learned from going after such a big goal and, of course, training for it. Success, whether it is on the field or in the office, requires a lot: motivation, teamwork, coaching, training and the desire to win. We’ve got some ideas to get you pumped for office success (almost as pumped as you are for the World Cup). Read on!
Successful offices, just like successful sports teams, are an alchemy of motivation, teamwork, fantastic coaching, practice/training – and, of course, that all-consuming desire to win. Think about your office: does it have what it takes to really go for it? We’ve got some winning ideas to get you pumped for office success (as much as you are for the World Cup)….
Desire To Win
The teams in the World Cup sure have it – win or lose, they’ve made it far. Is your office ready to play in the big leagues? What makes teams, and offices, big players is simple: desire. Desire means wanting to win above all else. Do you have it; does your office? Motivate your employees, remind them why they are doing what they are doing. Keep their eyes on the ball.
Teamwork Means Everything
Each man for himself – nice in concept, but in reality it takes a village to do almost anything at all. If you aren’t working well as a team, well – you simply aren’t working. Assess how you work together, and find ways to improve it. This one is a biggie. Find ways to strategize and work on scoring goals – together.
A Good Coach Is Priceless
Who’s the boss? You’ve got to have a clear leader in anything – whether it’s getting through the jungle (TV show Lost style), or leading a country – we all need coaches to see the broader picture and tell us where to improve what we’re doing. Who’s your office coach? Are they being the firm coach your office needs for big success? It’s crucial that they are – and continue to do so. If not, get an ump to call them out.
As silly as it may sound, sharing motivational quotes happens from the best businesses to the biggest sports teams. Why? Because they get us going – they really do. Whether it’s as simple as, ‘Just Do It’ (Nike), or more complex such as “What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals.” – Henry David Thoreau – these small bursts of positivity really can make the difference between winning and losing.
Your Turn With The Ball
Brazil won over Spain last year – and it didn’t happen by accident. With office changes, don’t be afraid to kick off – and make real changes. Draw inspiration from the big players (even the ones who ‘lose’ – they still win, in big, big ways). Motivate. Coach. Dream big. Work together. Oh, yeah – and ‘just do it’.
